This hotel is off the beaten trail. Not difficult to get to, but not in town or village. It dates from 1891, and many of the furnishings look original. It has a terrific Victorian look and feel about it. I just adored the place. Beds could be a little bigger (I am 6 feet 3 inches), but like the rest of the hotel, the beds are old timey classic. I took plenty of pictures, and no rain til I was about to leave, and even the rain was beautiful in the romantic view. Great staff, great price, especially for Norway. If you want high rise steel and glass, do not go here. If you want to see Norway, cool place.

Hope they never renovate and upgrade this old pearl. It is fantastic to be given an iron key, made back in the day when this wooden hotel was built. The location is fantastic, great view of the fjord and the mountains. Not the greatest wine and dine, but unbeatable on historic atmosphere. Hope the owner understands and appreciate the importance of keeping it in its original fashion.

This is a sad story that I hate to tell. The husband visited this hotel about 40 years ago, and has, since then, always said it was the only place he would pay to go back to. Well, we actually planned our Norway trip around staying here, so it was an important stop. Well, driving up to the hotel I could tell the town seemed a little beat. But then we got to the hotel. Oh My! So bad! I was hoping the husband wouldn't notice! Paint chipping and cracking, roof in terrible disrepair, grounds unkempt. Even the foundation looks bad! So very sad this place is. The inside is not much better. The employees are all foreigners and really don't seem to care much about anything. We had the Tower Room - sort of the king of the road! But so worn out! The furniture was like Grandma's attic, and the beautiful porch was all peeling paint and mold. So, so sad.||We went to dinner in the dining room, and this is very good news. It was one of the best dinners I had in Norway!! Who could have guessed?!? I had delicious tomato soup and lamb chops. Breakfast was OK, too.||So. We had the opportunity to talk with several people about the hotel. Rumor has it that the family that had owned it forever had to eventually sell, and the buyer, who promised to fix it up and care for it, had fallen short of his promises. Very sad, indeed.

Casa in legno d'epoca come del resto anche tutto l'arredamento interno reception, sale di accoglienza, bar, sala ristorante ma ad eccezione dei letti rigorosamente nuovi e confortevole e del bagno ristrutturato con riscaldamento a pavimento ma lasciato in una cornice d'epoca. la location è bellissima e suggestiva, davanti ad un fiordo e alle spalle le montagne con scenari incantevoli e bellissimi, tranquillità e pace si respirano dentro e fuori l'hotel. Abbiamo cenato in hotel e direi cucina di alto livello sia per la presentazione che per i sapori, apparecchiatura molto curata e camerieri gentilissimi e preparati, con musica di sottofondo classica. la colazione curata e buona sempre con musica classica in sottofondo. Lo consiglio vivamente in quanto l'ho trovato molto pulito, e devo ammettere che negli altri alberghi di catene nazionali invece la pulizia lascia molto a desiderare, con parquet in camera.

Man könnte beim Vorbeifahren glauben das Hotel wäre seit langem geschlossen. Doch wenn man sich darauf einlässt, und ins Hotel geht, wird man sehr freundlich empfangen.||Es wirkt wie im Museum: alte Bilder und Fotografien aus alten Tagen, antike Möbel, alles im Stil eines altenHerrenhauses, wobei sicher Renovierungen bald notwendig sein werden||||Das Personal war überaus freundlich und hilfsbereit, die Atmosphäre warmherzig und familiär. Wir haben uns echt wohl gefühlt.||||Das 3 Gänge Abendessen war sehr gut und preiswert.||||||Die Zimmer greifen das Thema der gesamten Stadt auf. Die Stadt "beherbergt" unzählige Bücher in Scheunen, Häusern usw. Es ist die "Stadt der Bücher", direkt am wunderschönen Fjord gelegen und von Gletschern umrahmt. Ein Bild das man nicht so schnell wo findet. ||Jostein Gaarder der Autor von Sofies Welt hat in dem Hotel gejobt.||Seine Spuren sind überall sichtbar.

Dette hotellet har vært stengt i lange tider pga av renovasjon. For noen år tilbake så fikk vi en fin tur inne og på cafe'n som ligger på hotellet. Det er et sted fyllt med historie, ikke bare bygget i seg selv, men alt innvendig forteller hotellets og Fjærlands historie på en vakker og folkekjær måte. Det er synd da, at det ved sist anledning ikke bare var stengt i hotellet, men også cafe'n.
